The Tailevu Naitasiri futsal team is eager to win the 2021 Futsal Inter District Championship title after 16 long years.
Head coach Sushil Singh said they last won the Futsal IDC title was in 2004 after beating Suva and from that year’s team Kavitesh Pal is the only senior player left in the team.
Singh said they have reached the semi-final and finals in the past years but this year their mission is to end the long drought.
"Due to the COVID-19 restrictions we were not able to train that much but we are still preparing for the first match against Ba."
"We will rely mostly on Kavitesh and Madhvan Goundar because they are the only two senior players in the team."
"Mostly the players are between 20-22 and they are University level students."
Singh added the side is in a tough Pool B with western champs Ba, Nadi and Lautoka.
"The boys are really looking forward to the match against Ba."
"They will be our biggest rival in the pool games and we want to defeat them."
"Not expecting any easy game because all teams are coming prepared. It will be a very difficult task in getting the win."
"We will take each game as it comes and make sure that we play ground ball and be quick in scoring," Singh added.
Tailevu Naitasiri will take on Ba at 6.45 pm at the Vodafone Arena in Suva on tomorrow.
