The Ministry of Education has given the green light for all competitive sports activities to take place in this new academic year.
Minister for Education Premila Kumar said the past two years have been very difficult for everyone, including students.
She said the ministry wants students to get back to their normal routine as soon as possible.
School sports like Kaji Rugby, Deans and Raluve Finals, Coca Cola Games, Vodafone Cup, Fiji National Schools Swimming Championship, Schools Inter-District Championship for Primary/Secondary Schools, Fiji Secondary Cricket Championship and Fiji Secondary School Hockey Tournament.
"We encourage as many students as possible to take part in sports. Even if it is not competitive sports, students should take part in some form of sports and physical activity."
"Participation in sports also strengthens social bonding of students with their peers and other people around them such as their coaches, opponents, and the spectators, which leads to improved social interaction. Together with that, it helps to manage emotions as we are aware of how emotions run high in sports – whether it’s watching a sport or playing it," she said.
The Ministry will announce the details of sporting events and COVID requirements over the coming days and weeks.
