Lautoka’s Churchill Park has been closed to beautify and prepare the venue for the historic Super Rugby Pacific clash between the Fijian Drua and the Chiefs on 28 May. Lautoka City Council chief executive Mohammed Anees Khan said they are excited to host a Super Rugby match for the first time and preparations are well underway. He said they have set aside $20,000 to get the park up to Super Rugby standard and renovation works have already commenced. “We have around 26 days to get the venue up to international standard. We are excited already and are looking forward to the big match in Lautoka. It will be a historic occasion for the Sugar City and we should be ready to welcome not only our local fans but those from overseas too.” “I would like to urge all stakeholders to join hands and help us make this historic event a success.” Khan is also urging fans to purchase their tickets early as the venue can only cater for 11,000 spectators. Meanwhile, the ticket sales will commence on Monday. The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua vs Chiefs match will kick off at 3pm on Saturday 28 May.
