Auckland to host Oceania 7s

Auckland has been chosen as the venue of the 2022 Oceania 7s which will be played  from 24-26 June.

The annual event previously took place at the ANZ Stadium in Suva with host nation Fiji winning the men's title consecutively on home soil/

The Oceania Rugby Women’s XVs Championship will also be held in Auckland from 9-17 July.

Fiji will be among six men’s and women’s teams that will participate including Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Tonga with an invitational Oceania side.

“We have the World, Olympic and Commonwealth Sevens Champions in our region and we intend on giving our teams the best preparation possible to retain the coveted top prizes in Rugby Sevens,” said interim Oceania Rugby General Manager Lemalu Wayne Schuster.

"The border closures and impact of Covid within our region has had ongoing effects on team performances.

This event provides a unique competition preparation for our teams in a boost ahead of their campaigns.”

“The South Auckland community has a strong Pasifika heritage, and we are looking forward to seeing the support for all of the teams across both competitions in the coming weeks.”
