Mateisuva relishes first win with Suva

Captain and goalkeeper Akuila Mateisuva is relishing his first win with back to back Fiji FACT champions Suva.

The 30-year-old Police officer who also won the Golden Glove award after just conceding one goal in the entire tournament said winning with the capital city side was special.

Mateisuva, who won his first Fiji FACT and golden glove with the Babasiga Lions in 2015, said he was confident and detrmined to help Suva retain its title.

"When I joined Suva I received lots of negative comments and critics from people but I stayed humble and coming into Fiji FACT, I just did my job as a captain and goalkeeper."

"I was confident but I also thank the players for putting in the good effort."

"We all did the hard work and received the fruit well on time."

"I came in the tournament as a normal player wanting to win the first title with Suva and after the first round I targeted to win the golden glove while remaining content till the final whistle in the final."

"It wasn't easy to defend the title because we made a lot of sacrifice."

"The boys have been in camp and so was I."

"We had to leave our families behind and take time out for training but we reaped the reward."

"I think the boys did very well. All players performed to their level best and they gave a gallant performance."

"We reminded the players that we are playing for our families, officials and also the sponsors who did not leave any stones unturned while we were in the camp."

"I had to stay on alert in the games because all teams were strong and they had very impactful forwards."

The Ketei native from Totoya in Lau said winning the Digicel Premier League title is next for him.

"I have experienced winning tournament in Fiji but have never won the League title."

"So I have shifted my focus on winning the first ever League title with Suva."

"Fiji FACT was a good outing for me and the players. The boys are in form and just that I have to continue improving on my skill set and also my speed."

"As a goalkeeper, I have to be fast and keep a strong focus on the opponents in the League," he said.
