U19 reps need more game time: Yusuf

Fiji Football Association chief executive Mohammed Yusuf says there is a huge need for Under 19 players to be given more game time in districts.

Yusuf said the rule by Fiji FA is that two under 19 players should be featured at district level football during every Digicel Premier League match and Fiji Football tournaments.

He said a review will be done where under 19 players should be given at least 45 minutes game time in every match.

"Well, we had a rule where under 19 players needed to start the game and it followed."

"But they need more game time, not just having the player in the district and given less game time."

"Fiji FA will look into that rule and review it because we have the Under 19 World Cup Qualifiers and before that we need players to expose their talents."

"If they are able to play at district level then I'm sure they will be able to qualify in the national under 19 team because they will already have the experience of playing at a high level football."

"Only a few months are left for the Qualifiers and the coaches will begin their selection soon at the Fiji FA headquarters. Selection depends on the performance of the players and the games they have played," he added.

The Under 19 World Cup Qualifiers will be played in Tahiti in September.
