Navua holds champs Lautoka

A late penalty by Netani Doli saw Navua register a hard fought 1-1 draw against champions Lautoka in Round 11 of the Digicel Premier League at the Uprising Sports Centre in Pacific Harbour today.

The Blues started well and went up in the 11th minute after defender Kolinio Sivoki blasted in a free-kick from 35 yards out.

Both teams got settled towards the end of the first quarter of the match and launched attacks at each others goalmouth.

The visitors went to the break with their tails up but Navua looked more determined and hungry to score in the second half.

After near misses, goalkeeper saves and a couple of off-side calls, the hosts finally managed to get their equaliser, though a call which somewhat looked controversial.

A free-kick taken by Doli had touched the forearm of defender Antonio Tuivuna and this resulted in a penalty to Navua- a chance which the veteran utility utilised well to ensure the southerners keep their survival hopes alive.

Navua remains in 8th spot with 10 points while Lautoka remains 4th with 18 points.
