Wasasala nets hat-trick in Lions big win

Star striker Christopher Wasasala scored a hat-trick of goals as Labasa thumped Ba 4-0 in their Round 16 Digicel Premier League fixture at Subrail Park today.

Both teams fielded their best possible starting eleven and gunned for a win to better their ranking.

But the Babasiga Lions after their 2-1 loss to Lautoka last weekend, looked more hungry and focused and opened the scoring in the 14th minute through striker Ratu Apenisa Anare.

Wasasala got his first goal of the afternoon in the 19th minute after sprinting away from the Ba defence and slamming the ball past goalkeeper Tevita Koroi.

He managed to get another goal before the break to give the hosts a comfortable 3-0 halftime lead.

Ba with experienced players like Naren Rao, Praneel Naidu, Malakai Tiwa, Captain Savenaca Nakalevu and youngster Nabil Begg was a no match for Labasa in the second half as well.

Labasa looked more energetic and continued with their threatening performance with Wasasala finding the target again and wrapping the impressive big victory.

The win pushes the Northerners to the sixth spot in the DPL standing.

The Ravneel Pratap coached side now has 19 points after 15 matches while Ba remains in the top five with 23 points after 16 appearances.

The starting teams:

Labasa: Simione Tamanisau (GK), Ratu Apenisa Anare, Lione Iliesa, Lekima Gonerau, Christopher Wasasala, Ashnil Raju, Akeimi Ralulu (C), Pawan Singh, Sekove Naivakananumi.
