Auckland City, NZ U19 warm up for Fijians

The Digicel Fiji Under 19 team is confirmed to play two friendly matches ahead of its campaign at the OFC Under 19 Championship next month.

National Football Head Coach Flemming Serritslev says the 25-member squad that marched in camp on Sunday will depart for New Zealand next week to play Auckland City and the New Zealand Under 19.

He said the two friendly matches are important for Fiji to test their players at the international level after a lapse of three years.

"We have one week left before we fly to New Zealand for camp."

"We will have two matches against Auckland City and New Zealand Under 19."

"The team will leave for Tahiti after the friendly."

"Through the two games, we want to see where we are standing and also iron out our weaknesses and mistakes."

"We have a good squad and they have been doing well against Premier League teams in the country."

"We want to compare with other nations in the region. And I feel we have two competitive matches lined up for the team."

"We have no COVID situation in the camp until now but we just have a player who is ill with monkeypox but he is seeking medical advice and has not been included in the camp."

"The squad is totally fit and we want to maintain things that way," he said.

The Oceania Football Confederation Under 19 Championship will be played in September in Tahiti.
