Fiji Presidents succumb to NC

New Caledonia claimed the third spot in the OFC Futsal Cup 2022 after defeating Fiji Presidents Five 5-3 at the Vodafone Arena in Suva today.

The visitors had a quick start with a goal in just the first minute through midfielder Julian Halune who tipped in a pass from Cedrick Wajoka.

Two minutes later, the Fijians responded through dangerous Pivot Ravneel Pal who took advantage of a Deepal Singh through pass and leveled the score at 1-all.

Both teams continued to put up a strong battle but it was Malaija Wright, who gave New Caledonia a lead with his powerful shot that gave no chance to Fijian goalkeeper Kitione Baleloa in the 9th minute.

Fiji regrouped and got strong in their strike force that saw Pal bagg his double and found the leveler at 2-all at the breather.

New Caledonia came firing in the second stanza and scored early again through Wright but Captain Aman Naidu leveled things in the 27th minute finding the back of the net with his powerful shot.

Mistakes in the hosts' defense allowed New Caledonia to again take the lead from super sub-pivot Uge Qwnwgeie who broke through the midfield and tipped the ball in the net for a 4-3 lead.

Fiji tried hard to make a comeback in the match but New Caledonia failed in their plan adding a consolation goal from Emmanuel Hmaen to seal the win.
