Kumar honored for heroic act

Fiji Football Association Physiotherapist Nishant Kumar was honored with a token of appreciation by the Vanuatu Media for being the first medical respondent in saving the life of a little boy who was severely injured in a road accident in Port Vila yesterday.

The token of appreciation was presented at the halftime of the Solomon Islands vs New Caledonia clash in the MSG Prime Ministers Cup group match at Korman Stadium tonight.

The Junior Bula Boys jumped to action to help the boy and direct traffic around the scene.

Kumar used his medical background to help the boy before paramedics arrived at the scene.

"We saw the boy lying motionless at the scene and I just started with the emergency procedures that we are trained in," he said.

The boy is in stable condition in a hospital in Vanuatu and the soccer team hopes to visit him once he's awake.

"Hopefully once he is recovered a bit, we'd like to go pay him a visit."
