Rewa bows out of OFC Champs League

Hienghene Sport has ended Rewa’s OFC Champions League run after beating them 2-0 in their final group match in Auckland today.

The New Caledonia-based outfit needed an all-important win to secure a spot in the semifinal stage.

The two sides played to a scoreless first half.

Tigers Patrick Joseph and Alick Worworbu were handed yellow cards early in the contest for foul play.

The Tigers goal was tested from the first whistle with goalkeeper Mohammed Alam being kept busy.

Striker Abbu Zahid alongside skipper Setareki Hughes also kept Hienghene goalkeeper Jacques Nyikeine alert.

Hienghene scored their first goal in the 67th minute through a free kick from Fonzy Ranchain which was floated from the edge of the box over the wall to slip past a flatfooted Alam and into the goal.

Ranchain would set up a second goal with a second freekick finding forward Amy Antoine Roine to head the ball in the goal with less than 15 minutes to go.

Rewa scrambled to change the tide in the final minutes to no avail.
