The 84th edition of the Inter District Championship (IDC) will have a new winner after 2020 champions Labasa bowed out following a 2-2 draw against Ba in the final Group B match at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva today.
The Babasiga Lions after a heavy 4-2 defeat to Lautoka last night needed a big win over the Men in Black to progress to the semifinals.
A fourth minute goal by Etonia Dogalau set the tone for Ba and piled pressure on the Northerners.
However a foul on Ilaisa Nayasi by goalkeeper Tevita Koroi saw Labasa get a penalty in the 37th minute and Christopher Wasasala made no mistake with his attempt to level up the scores.
The teams headed to break all even and the second half proved more exciting as the arch rivalry between the two giants of local football got more intense.
Youngster Nabil Begg scored a stunning goal midway in the half through a volley which found goalkeeper and Captain Simione Tamanisau off-guard.
Wasasala leveled the scores again, just two minutes after from a tap-in as the Ba defence failed to clear a deep cross on time.
Both teams ended the match with only ten players as Labasa’s Lekima Gonerau was sent off in the 82nd minute and Ba’s Dogalau was given his marching orders towards the end of the match for unsporting behaviour following a second booking.
RC Manubhai Ba tops Group B with 5 points and Sharam Hangers Rewa finish second and also have 5 points but trail in terms of goal difference.
