Police retains football title

The Fiji Police Force football team defended their FMF Sukuna Bowl Challenge title after beating Army 3-1 in a heated affair at Bidesi Park in Suva today.

The fast paced Al-Hamd Smart Living sponsored side proved to strong for their counterparts, ranked with the services of their experienced district players.

Police scored first when a clear ball from defender Meli Codro found Tevita Waranaivalu who scored with a powerful volley on 38 minutes.

The lawmen doubled their points soon after when Waranaivalu was found unmarked to setup Abbu Zahid on a follow-up from right in front to score past goalkeeper Epeli Loaniceva.

The Police officers led 2-0 at halftime.

Army, who did well to kept up stiff competition fought back hard in the second half intent on keeping play in the Police half.

A chance came for the soldiers when a foul in the box allowed captain and striker Christopher Wasasala to close the gap to one goal after scoring the following penalty in the 75th minute.

But the experience of the Police side proved too much, with Ratu Apenisa Anare scoring the final goal and securing their fourth consecutive title.
