Stopper ‘Hurricane’ Naivivi dies

A prominent goalkeeper of the 70s and 80s era, Ananaisa ‘Hurricane’ Naivivi has died at the age of 68.

The former Ba stopper died peacefully at his residence in Vatukarasa, Nadroga on Sunday.

Fiji Football Association President Rajesh Patel said the entire football fraternity is saddened by the news of Naivivi’s passing and sent his sympathies and condolences to his grieving family.

“It’s a huge loss. He was with us during the Digicel Fiji FACT just this year in Sigatoka.”

“Naivivi had been a great footballer and an inspirational leader of his time. He was a very passionate footballer and always supported the development of football in the country.”

Originally from Togovere Village, Naivivi represented the Men in Black from 1975 to 1986 and was part of the squad which won the Inter District Championship six times in a row from 1975 to 1985.

He was inducted into Fiji FA’s Legends’ Club in 2018 and was a regular at all football tournaments.
