Koroi, Rokolisoa, Nicole battle for Olympic spot

Three Fijians Vilimoni Koroi, Akuila Rokolisoa and Amanaki Nicole have been named in New Zealand 7s 19 man squad to feature in the Ocean Sevens next week.

The trio are fighting for a spot in the New Zealand 7s team for the Tokyo Olympic which will be played next month.

Koroi burst onto the Sevens Series in 2017 with a number of eye-catching performances for the All blacks 7s team.

In his first year out of Feilding High School, Koroi debuted for the All Blacks Sevens on home soil in Wellington.

A combination of deft footwork, speed and a natural eye for the game sees comparisons drawn with sevens legend Tomasi Cama.

Koroi plays for Otago in the Mitre 10 Cup and is contracted to the Highlanders.

Rokolisoa made his debut for the New Zealand men's team in 2018 in Hong Kong.

He was loaned from Auckland to Counties where he turned heads and caught the attention of selectors, leading to his inclusion as one of seven debutants in Hong Kong and saw the 24-year-old called into the Gold Coast team where he went on to win a gold medal.

Nicole was contracted to the All Blacks Sevens at the start of 2018 after a stand out performance for Canterbury at the National Sevens.

His progress in the national side has been thwarted by injury but the tall, strong forward has continued to impress with every opportunity he has had.

The former Burnside High School student played for the Southland Stags in the 2020 Mitre 10 Cup.

The Oceania Sevens will be held from the 25-27 of June in Townsville, Australia.

All Blacks: Kurt Baker, Caleb Clarke, Dylan Collier, Scott Curry, Sam Dickson, Trael Joass, Andrew Knewstubb, Vilimoni Koroi, Ngarohi McGarvey-Black, Tim Mikkelson, Sione Molia, Etene Nanai-Seturo, Tone Ng Shiu, Amanaki Nicole, Akuila Rokolisoa, William Warbrick, Regan Ware, Joe Webber and Kitiona Vai.
