Fijiana 7s a motivation for 15s: Seruvakula

Fijiana 15s coach Senirusi Seruvakula says the Tokyo Olympics women’s 7s bronze medalist Fijiana 7s is a huge motivation for the 15s extended squad.

Seruvakula said the Fijiana 7s played their hearts out and was prevalent when they countered big teams at the Olympics.

“I must say that our Fijiana 7s team to the Olympics has motivated the girls in the fifteens squad. Seeing their games, we can say that they played from their heart and we could see this in every game. They have reminded our squad members that anything is possible if we strive for it.”

“It was also a surprise to see these ladies defeat Australia twice, first at the Oceania 7s and then at Tokyo which is a great step forward. This also informs us that we could have beaten New Zealand but then again we are proud of our 7s achievement.”

The coach also mentioned that 80 per cent of the Fijiana 15s players were part of the 7s squad and those players will get in camp next month.

“Some of our 15s players were part of the 7s team and they will join the rest of the players in the camp in the following month because we also have to prepare for the women’s world cup. We have been drawn in a tough pool and we also need to train hard for that.”

“The 7s players will go into quarantine and after that meet their families. We want them to get rest because they were away for three months and sacrificed a lot. When we get back into the camp there will be a lot of work to do. We already have plans in place for our training and it will be executed once all members are together,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Fijiana 7s team arrived at the Nadi international airport last night and headed straight to their 14-day mandatory quarantine.
