Olympics gold is my biggest achievement: Bolaca

Fiji 7s playmaker and 2020 Tokyo Olympics Gold medalist Ratu Napolioni Bolaca says winning the gold at the Olympics has been his biggest achievement in life.

Bolaca said he dedicates his success to his family members and to his fans that have been supporting him throughout.

“Journey was not easy because I had to go through injuries, recover and then train harder to meet the expectation of national 7s coach Gareth Baber. He always trusted me and told me to give my best during training, playing in Fiji and then at Townsville going down to the Olympics.”

“My family and my fans have always been motivating me to always try and strive for the best. I did not expect to be picked in the Olympics squad but through the support, I have been getting, I just did my best and followed God’s message.”

The Yasawa native said his best memory of rugby was being chosen to be part of the Fiji 7s squad.

“Getting into 7s and playing in international tournaments that's my best memory and then winning gold. My goal in life was to win the gold and I won it and I thank the people who have been with me throughout the good and tough times.”

“Every game we played at Townsville- we looked back at that before we went to play in Tokyo. We saw our mistakes and worked on that which was seen in every game,” he added.

The Fiji 7s side is completing their 14 days quarantine and is eager to meet their families after five months.
