Toma praises fighting spirit of players

New Nadi Coach Viliame Toma was ecstatic after their 1-0 win over Labasa in the Digicel Premier League today and praised his players for their fighting spirit.

Toma said while this is his first victory with the team, the players did not leave any stones unturned in giving in their best.

“In three games we conceded 10 goals. Me and my assistant just came and tied up a few screws and they performed. The players put in a lot of hard work which saw them win today.”

“It’s like a positive step for us. The officials were worried of our standing and I told them that it was not our place. We were supposed to be there in top three with the three best teams. It’s because of the players that we got the win today and I commend their fighting spirit."

“We have two more games left and we want to register two more wins. Both matches are important for us and we hope the players maintain the winning spirit in them.”

Toma also commended former coach Shalen Lal who helped in setting up a good structure for the side.

“All the work was done by former coach Shalen Lal. We followed the same game plan which he had set in the team in the past matches. His plan worked today and we are very happy that the boys executed it at the right time.”

“We went in for a win because we really wanted to win. Three losses were enough and I told the boys that we needed to pull up our socks and that’s what they did,” he added.

Midfielder Tuiba Batiratu netted Nadi's winner in the 65th minute after connecting well with a through pass from Captain William Valentine.
