Valevou eager to unleash against Nadroga

Returning Rewa striker Epeli Valevou is itching to score goals against Nadroga in round 12 of the Digicel Premier League on Sunday.

Valevou told FijiLive that he regretted being on suspension but made a good start in round 11 of DPL in their 1-all against Labasa.

He admitted that a little more game time will help him show his magical footwork for the Delta Tigers.

"I was suspended but now I am back. I’m happy to come back and I’m happy that the officials believed in me and gave me a chance to play."

"I was training with the boys and also engaged in rugby. My suspension really had a negative impact on my football and that’s something I’m upset about. But now that I’m back I’m confident in bringing a positive impact in my game."

Due to suspension, the Kadavu native utilised his time playing rugby for a Nausori based club named Calia.

"As a finisher, I think we need to improve on fitness and more game time. Since coming back into the games, I still feel the need for more game time. The players have been encouraging me during the training and also during the game."

"When I was away I used to play rugby and that helped me to maintain my fitness level. Rugby kept me engaged with sports and that’s something which has helped me maintain my speed."

The 20-year-old began his football career with the Rewa youth team and his father and former footballer Sekeo Valevou is his source of strength.

“I get a lot of strength and encouragement from my father; he was also a footballer. He always tells me to give me my best and play good football.”

"“I also learnt some football skills from him. Whenever I play, he is always there to support me. Before the games, he and my family always pray for me and the team."

Coach Roderick Singh also added that Valevou has brought in some positive change in his attitude and also in his game.

"Epeli is a good player and an outstanding performer. But due to some disciplinary issues he was out. But it's good to see him play and back on the side."

"And you might have seen his input in the team. He has helped to change things around and it’s good to see him be back," Singh said.

Rewa will take on Moshin’s Insulation Nadroga in round 12 of DPL.
