Auckland City qualifies for semis

Auckland City has qualified for the semifinals of the 2022 OFC Champions League after beating Rewa 3-0 at Ngahue Reserve in New Zealand today.

After an impressive opening 5-0 win over Hienghène Sport last week, the 9-time champions found the going easy against the Fijian champions.

Captain and All Whites representative Cam Howieson got on the score-sheet in the 26th minute from the penalty spot after Dylan Manickum was brought down illegally by Iowane Matanisiga.

Howieson, who was named the Player of the Match turned provider for the second goal nine minutes later for Mario Ilich.

He delivered a ball from a corner which goalkeeper Mohammed Alam initially did well to save, but was powerless to stop on the second bounce which Ilich tapped home.

Auckland City led 2-0 at the break and continued with its dominance in the second half.

Emiliano Tade produced a beautiful chipped shot in the dying stages to put the icing on the victory.

Rewa will play its final group match against defending champions Hienghène Sport at 12pm on Thursday.
