COVID break a blessing for Vunisea

Vunisea Secondary School believes the COVID-19 break had given them time to reset heading into this year’s Coca-Cola Games.

One of the smaller contingents at the Fiji Finals, team manager Epeli Waqa believes they have prepared well.

“We competed in 2019, but did not medal, we have come back now after COVID-19 and have prepared well,” Waqa said during their training session at the HFC Bank Stadium today.

“COVID-19 gave us an opportunity to reshape and restrategise and come back again.”

The southerners from Kadavu total 28 athletes with 26 athletes to compete at their first Coca-Cola Games.

“It is about exposure, and we have a very young squad.

“It is all new to them coming to this kind of atmosphere and they are relishing the contest ahead, especially against big schools.”

Waqa added the focus for the team was to do their best next weekend.
