FNRL paves way for women: Levaci

National Rugby League Fiji General Manager Ema Levaci has commended the Fiji National Rugby League for their continued pursuit of developing women’s rugby league in the country.

This was after the first FNRL Women’s Premiership was launched in the country yesterday.

“We are all witnesses to the fundamental work that is the sport of rugby league in Fiji,” Levaci said.

“The moment where women and girls will be seen, heard, supported, encouraged and empowered as rugby league players amongst their male counterparts.”

Levaci said women’s rugby league had come a long way, and the progress was forever reaching new heights.

“In 2016 we witnessed a primary schools girls team participate in a Gala event for the first time, in early 2019, four schools rugby league teams, entered a girls category in the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League competition.

“This year that number has increased to 16 girls team,”

Levaci added the movement culminated with the formation of the first women's international team in the Fiji Bulikula.

“Rugby league was a sport that truly recognized gender equality, and it paves the way for an exciting future. “
