Special win is for Dad: Toia

Evueli Toia, who inspired for a Gold medal in the Boys 15000 Metre Senior in Event 14 of Coca-Cola Games at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva today, dedicated the medal to his father Akilo Seru.
The Year 13 student of Saint Vincent College said his father told him that he would only get track shoes if he brought good marks in his studies and made it through the zone competition.
The Tailevu lad said his father’s words did not discourage him; rather he felt motivated and worked twice as hard to prove his capability.
"This medal is for my dad, he is my trainer and the reason why I won the medal today."
"Well, he told me that if I want to take part in the Coca-Cola games I have to go through the hard yards and that is to pass with flying colours and also pass the zone meet."
"After I heard that, I said to myself, I have no option because I wanted to be part of the Coca-Cola games because next year, I won’t be able to."
"So I had to do my best in my studies and also during my training. He gave me a tough time during my training. Timing me as I ran in the Tailevu area, especially climbing the hills without shoes and running on the gravel."
"But I think that motivated me and the best part is that the struggles of my success have been recognised today and I feel I can still improve a lot."
"I thank my dad because if he did not put me to the test then I’m sure I would not have been able to make it."
