New Zealand wins U19 Championship

New Zealand claimed the 2022 OFC U19 Championship title in Tahiti today after outclassing Fiji 3-0 in the final.

The Kiwis looked more organised and focused and scored two first half goals through Oliver Colloty for a comfortable halftime lead.

Fiji bettered its performance in the second half and threatened with some good attacking play.

Midfielder Nabil Begg missed two sitters while attacking forward Lachlan Lal missed a golden chance after his shot hit the post and bounced back into play.

Jay Herman sealed victory for the Kiwis with a well executed goal which gave goalkeeper Aiydin Mustahib no chance at all.

Both teams progress to the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia.

The starting teams:

Fiji- Aiydin Mustahib, Peter Ravisitai, Sailasa Ratu, Lachlan Lal, Mustafa Mohammed, Melvin Mani, Nabil Begg, Gulam Rasool, Geary Kubu, Mohammed Raheem, Samuela Navoce (C).
