Ali keeps Navua in contention

Lanky Zainal Ali’s second half equalizer keeps Navua in the hunt for a semifinal spot in the 2022 Courts Inter District Championship (IDC).

The Saiyad Ali coached side came from a goal down to level up the match against Nadi and register their second point of the tournament.

Playing under hot scorching conditions, the two teams failed to get any goals in the first half despite creating some good chances.

Navua started Solomon Islander Jared Rongosulia and Thomas Dunn while goalkeeper Viliame Rakuro also returned to the starting team after recovering from a facial injury.

Nadi on the other hand started almost the same team which featured in the 1-1 draw against Nadroga yesterday, with only Andrew Naicker starting upfront in place of Josua Tawake.

Defender Ilimotama Jese headed in the opener for the Jetsetters early in the second half from a William Valentine corner kick in the 48th minute.

Striker Siotame Kubu who is nursing a hamstring injury was sent in to add some attacking power for Nadi but he unfortunately had to be pulled out after failing to click and was replaced by youngster Eneriko Matau.

Continuous pressure from Navua saw Ali find the equalizer in the 68th minute after getting a neat through pass from Melvin Mani.

Both teams have 2 points each and will play their final matches tomorrow.

All in One Builders Nadi will meet Rams Cleaning/All Freights Logistics Suva at 4pm while Koromakawa Rentals and Tours Navua will take on Safe Logistics Nadroga at 12pm.
