Defending champion Fiji overpowered Japan 36-0 in its opening match of the Hong Kong 7s at the So Kon Po Stadium last night. The Fijians were ruthless from the opening whistle and Vatemo Ravouvou held up possession before Jerry Tuwai stepped in to score the first try. Ravouvou then brought up his 50th series try before Joeli Lutumailagi put Fiji up by 19-0 at halftime. Captain Osea Kolinisau made it 24-0 before Apisai Domolailai finished off a move after some good work at the breakdown by Kolinisau. This was followed by more brilliant offloading and interchanges before Jerry Tuwai went over for number 6. Fiji plays Wales in its second match at 5.12pm today. By Reginald Chandar |
