Fiji bundled out of quarters

The Vodafone Fiji 7s team went down 24-19 to the United States of America in the quarterfinal of the Singapore 7s today.

The United States of America looked more determined and focused to win and scored first through Ben Pickelman to lead 5-0.

Waisea Nacuqu's converted try a minute later gave the Fijians a 7-5 lead but Stephen Tomasin raced away from a break-down to put USA up by 12-7 at halftime.

Tomasin and Pickelman continued their fine performance and touched down two more times to extend USA's lead by 24-7.

A late surge by the Fijians saw them score two tries through replacements Josua Vici and Isake Katonibau but this was not enough as time was up on the clock.

Fiji will now face South Africa in the first semifinal of the fifth place playoff. The South Africans blew away a 17-7 lead and lost 19-17 to Australia in the second quarterfinal.
