Fiji marches into HK 7s final

Reigning champion Fiji has progressed to the grand finale of the 2017 Hong Kong 7s after beating Australia 33-12 in the first semifinal at the So Kon Po Stadium tonight.

Captain Osea Kolinisau scored the first try in the corner after the Fijians attacked from a turnover. Vatemo Ravouvou converted beautifully to give them a 7-0 lead.

Halfback Jerry Tuwai sneaked in with the second try a minute later and Ravouvou converted again to double Fiji’s lead.

Tuwai scored Fiji’s third try from a penalty a minute before halftime and a successful conversion by Ravouvou saw the Fijians extend their lead by 21-0.

And Kalione Nasoko dived in for the fourth as Fiji took a 26-0 halftime lead.

Charlie Taylor got the first try of the match for the Australians two minutes after halftime and another try under the sticks saw them narrow the scores to 26-12.

Replacement Setatreki Bituniyata wrapped up the big win after connecting well with Waisea Nacuqu to score between the posts.

The grand finale will be played at 11pm (Fiji Time).
