Kubu saves the day for Lautoka

Striker Siotame Kubu scored a late equalizer as a star-studded Lautoka outfit was held 1-1 by newcomers Rakiraki in the Vodafone Premier League at Churchill Park today.

With no points in the bag after five appearances, Rakiraki entered the match as underdogs but stunned the hosts with a quick goal through nippy striker Zainal Hussein.

The goal shocked the Blues and their loyal supporters who gathered in numbers, to witness perhaps yet another win of the season.

The Maroons went to the break with their tails up and tightened their defence to make the second half more exciting as Lautoka attacked from every opportunity to get back into the match.

And in the 84th minute, Kubu who netted a hat-trick against Nadi last week proved to be the savior for Lautoka as he tapped in the equalizer, dashing Rakiraki’s hopes of walking away with the win of the season.

The result pushes Lautoka on top of the VPL standing with 13 points after five matches while Rakiraki sits at the bottom of the table with 1 point after six matches.
