Two of the most experienced coaches in the country will face-off in the first semifinal of the 2018 INKK Mobile Battle Of Giants (BOG) between Suva and Labasa today at Churchill Park in Lautoka. Gurjit Singh and Anand Sami have been in the business of football for over two decades now and their tactical knowledge and wealth of coaching experience will be crucial for the two sides that both lost their first group match of the tournament last Friday. Suva went down 2-1 to Rewa while Labasa suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of Ba. Singh has been consistently coaching local districts while Sami who returned from Australia late last year to coach Tavua has since coached Nadi in the Pacific Cup and took over the coaching reigns of Labasa in the Fiji FACT. Sami was also appointed assistant Fiji coach earlier this year by Fiji FA and recently returned from national duties with Coach Christophe Gamel from Malaysia. Singh on the other hand took a little break after the BOG last year to reunite with his family in the United States of America (USA) and returned a couple of weeks back to take charge of the Whites. In comparison, the coaches of the second semifinal between Ba and Nadi do not have much experience but have prepared well tactically and recently attended and successfully completed a coaching course with Fiji FA. Suva topped Group A after beating Nadi 2-0 in their final group match while Labasa defeated Lautoka 1-0 and then thumped Tavua 5-0 to finish second in Group B behind Ba. Professional Valuation sponsored Suva will face Lincoln Refrigeration sponsored Labasa in the first semifinal at 2pm. By Reginald Chandar |
