Winning double awards in the 2018 INKK Mobile Battle Of Giants (BOG) over the weekend has further boosted the morale and confidence of top Ba marksman Abbu Zahid. The 27-year-old former national rep was named the Player of the Tournament and also scooped the Golden Boot after netting five goals, including one in the final in their 2-0 victory over Suva. “I am really delighted to win these two awards. This achievement will motivate me to work harder and give my best for my district.” “This has been made possible through team work and all my fellow teammates helped me to play to the best of my ability in the BOG,” he said. Zahid said the continuous support of his family, especially his mum always pushes him to be at his level best. “Before every tournament or game, my mother is there to give me her support and blessings. I dedicate my every award to her because she has gone through so much in life to make me the man I am today. She is my biggest fan and my inspiration.” “I also dedicate our BOG win to mothers of all our players as well as the mother of our manageress, as she was praying for us and always supporting us. The families also sacrifice a lot to help us become better and this win is for our families, as well as the true Ba supporters who are with the team in both our good and bad times,” he added. Zahid who had a brief stint in New Zealand says he has no immediate plans of taking up any overseas offers and wants to help the Men In Black in the upcoming Inter District Championship in Suva. “I want to stay in good form and help Ba win more games. We have the IDC next and I want to play in that tournament too. We also have to do well in the League as we can qualify for O-League if we finish in top two.” “I also want to make a comeback in national team and will hard on my fitness so I can impress the coaches and get a call to join the camp for upcoming international games,” he concluded. Zahid is currently part of the Fiji Muslim team partcipating at the 2018 FANCA World Cup in Lautoka and he is also the captain of the side. By Reginald Chandar |
