First win sets a good platform, says Khan

Suva Coach Babs Khan says their 1-0 win over Rewa in the first round of the Digicel Premier League sets a good platform for the defending champions.

Khan said it was vitally important for them to start their campaign with a win, especially after losing the two legged Champion vs Champion series against Labasa last month.

“It’s about winning and defending the League title and we needed to win the first game to set a good platform for the remaining matches as we have set a goal to win the title back to back.”

“We had a lot of young players lined up on the field and most of them were unknown but it’s not about names. These players worked hard to get their chance to play.”

Khan said he has a lot of expectations from the young players that have joined them this season.

“We really want to see the young players earn a spot for themselves in each match through their good discipline and fitness level. It’s going to be a long season but time flies and we have to keep good time management.”

“This is the starting and it is a sweet one and we want to keep our winning momentum. We always talk to the boys in the camp to keep the discipline and don’t indulge into something that may cause chaos in the team.”

Suva is scheduled to meet Nadroga in its next match this Sunday.
