Suva quartet suspended indefinitely

Suva Football Association has indefinitely suspended four players who missed training and went on a drinking spree.

Confirming this to FijiLive, President Ritesh Pratap said striker Christopher Wasasala, midfielders Filipe Baravilala and Iosefo Verevou together with left-back Kalisito Veikoka have been suspended as the matter has become a huge issue within the team.

“We held a camp on Saturday to get the boys together and focus on our opening game against Rewa but these four players did not show up.”

“They also missed training on Friday. Later on Saturday night, we found out that they had been drinking alcohol.”

Pratap said the management has decided to suspend the players and the four will be served with their suspension letters today.

He said the players will be summoned to appear before their disciplinary committee and explain their case as they do not want other players in the team to get influenced.

Pratap highlighted that discipline is an important component of the team and the players have to face the consequences for their actions.

“These players are ambassadors of the district and they need to lead by example. The fans and the younger generation look up to them. We are a champion district as we won two titles last year and we have to set good precedent.”

Unique Rubber Stamp Suva defeated Rewa 1-0 yesterday and will meet Nadroga in its next match this Sunday.
