Waisake aims to shine as a striker

Waisake Navunigasau is aiming to prove his worth as a striker in the Suva jumper this season.

The seasoned campaigner rejoined the Whites camp from Rewa in the player transfer window and has since been playing upfront and not in his usual central defender's position.

The 32-year-old Bucalevu native from Ra who is a Police officer by profession told FijiLive he wanted to take up the challenge after the coaching panel asked him to play in an attacking role.

"I have been playing as a defender since 2012. Prior to that I was always a striker. I played striker at youth level and also for my school team but in 2012 the coach asked me to play in defence as I had the height to be a good defender and I took up the challenge."

"When I rejoined the team, the coach said they have a lot of defenders and I should adjust in the attacking role. The trasition is hard but I am trying my best to adjust and score some goals," he said.

“Different positions need different types of fitness and as a striker we have to be fast and very consistent that when the ball comes to us we take the team forward. Strikers have a lot on their shoulders and that’s something I need to adapt to," Navunigasau added.
