Youth League battle off to a start

The Digicel Under 19 Youth League is set to kick off this weekend in southern and western zones.

Fiji Football Association competitions manager Amitesh Pal says the youth league involves 18 teams in three divisions.

“The southern zone consists of Rewa, Suva, Nasinu, Navua, Tailevu Naitasiri, and Northland Tailevu while the western zone is made up of Ba, Nadi, Lautoka Tavua, Nadroga, and Rakiraki. The northern zone has Labasa, Savusavu, Dreketi, Seaqaqa, Nadogo and Bua.”

Pal said the U19 Youth competition would be played for ten weeks and the winner of the final play-off will be declared as the Digicel U19 Youth League champion.

“The teams will play each other within their zones on a home and away basis for the initial ten weeks of the competition.”

“Teams finishing on top in their respective zones will qualify for the final play-off which will be played on a single round-robin basis,” Pal added.

In the southern zone at Fiji FA Academy Ground in Vatuwaqa on Saturday, defending champions Rewa will meet Nasinu at 2 pm.

And on Sunday at 10 am Northland Tailevu will face Tailevu Naitasiri while at 12noon Navua will meet Suva.

The northern zone competition is expected to kick off at a later date.
