Valemei scores in Raiders victory

Fijian winger Semi Valemei scored a try and helped the Canberra Raiders beat the Cronulla Sharks by 34-18 in Round 18 of the NRL last night.

The win is pivotal for the Raiders season, posting back-to-back wins towards a late finals run.

Winger Jordan Rapana and five-eighth Jack Wighton scored two early tries for Raiders and Jarrod Croker converted both goals for a 12-0 lead.

But soon after the Sharks levelled the scores with two tries coming from Jesse Ramien and Sione Katoa while Braydon Trindall converted for 12 points.

The Sharks made an early second half start with their final try from Ronaldo Mulitalo and Trindall converted, taking the lead to 28 points.

The momentum shifted with Raiders making a strong comeback through Hudson Young and Xavier Savage scoring two back to back tries and Croker converted once.

Valemei claimed a try right on full time after he cleaned up a Cronulla error to race away to score. Croker put the icing on the cake and converted the extra’s to go out victorious over the Sharks.
