Knee injury motivated Nagasau

2020 Tokyo Olympics women’s 7s bronze medalist and Fijiana 7s Captain Rusila Nagasau revealed that her knee injury motivated her and the squad.

Nagasau said she had to fight the difficult hurdles to retain her spot in the Olympics team.

The Cakaudrove native also mentioned the personal sacrifices she had to make in a short span of time.

“Left knee was injured before last year but we were told that Olympic has been moved to another year. For me it was a blessing, especially I got injured. I had to cut down on my carbs and try to train, try to improve my fitness-that was my biggest challenge.”

“I had to sacrifice a lot. Especially food, sleeping time-it was very important. The more you recover your body, the better you become when you are on the field.”

But the support and guidance from the coaching panel was a huge boost for her recovery.

“Coach just told us to go there and play for as we spent a huge amount of time on training while sacrificing our families. Deep down our hearts, we believed we could beat the teams we met. Coach told us to change our mindset and it was a lesson. He told us to believe in ourselves, our team and that anything is possible on the field.”
