Koroi's Otago suffer big loss

Vilimoni Koroi slotted a penalty and successfully kicked a conversion in Otago's 34-10 loss to Hawke's Bay in Round 2 of the NPC on Sunday.

Otago scored the first points with a try to centre Freedom Vaha'akolo who ran a lovely line off halfback Kayne Hammington to open the home defence in the 18th minute and score.

Koroi converted and minutes later slotted a penalty for a 10-0 lead.

But Hawkes' Bay replied from a midfield scrum where the ball was moved wide for wing Neria Fomai to cross the try-line.

Moments later fullback Lolagi Visinia won the race from a grubber kick to the in-goal to give the Bay a 14-7 halftime lead.

Centre Stacey Ili's low running style got him over 11 minutes into the second half.

Replacement loose forward Josh Kaifa showed his strength and determination to score a bollocking try on the right flank and it was left to wing Jonah Lowe to secure his own chip kick in injury time to wrap up a commanding win.
