Kubu misses out on 7s selection

Fiji-born speedster Jone Kubu has failed to make the cut in Kenya's 12-man squad for next weekend's Vancouver 7s in Canada.

The 27-year-old Sawani villager was included in Kenya's extended squad for the World Sevens Series but Coach Innocent Simiyu has opted to select a relatively young and inexperienced squad which will be captained by Nelson Oyoo.

Oyoo, who was part of the team that won the Singapore Sevens five years ago, will provide leadership to the squad which is in transition following the retirement of long-serving inspirational skipper Andrew Amonde.

Levi Amunga, Derrick Keyoga, Alvin Marube, Mark Kwemoi and Timothy Mmasi will make their debut in Vancouver.

Kenya is in Pool A with South Africa, Spain and invitational team Mexico.

Kenya squad: Nelson Oyoo (C), Jeff Oluoch, Alvin Otieno, Timothy Mmasi, Herman Humwa, Harold Anduvati, Willy Ambaka, Daniel Taabu, Mark Kwemoi, Levi Amunga, Billy Odhiambo, Derrick Keyoga, Alvin Marube.
