Montoya scores as Warriors lose narrowly

Fijian International winger Marcelo Montoya scored the opening try for the New Zealand Warriors in their 24-22 narrow defeat to the Brisbane Broncos in Round 23 of the NRL on Sunday.

The nail biting match saw Xavier Coates scoring two consecutive tries in the 21 and 25th minute of the match and Herbie Farnworth converted for a 12-0 lead.

Young Reece Walsh burst out of what began as not much from dummy-half helped the Warriors to fire back within moments through Marcelo Montoya touching down the ball but conversion missed.

The Broncos led by 12-4 at the break.

The Warriors came out strong in the second stanza and were quick in scoring two tries through Peta Hiku and Josh Curran but Walsh converted once only.

A clever chip for Tesi Niu to toe ahead once more, the kick-to-kick lead-up only trumped by Albert Kelly's audacious snatch and scored while Farnworth.

But the Warriors reclaim the lead with a Dallin Watene-Zelezniak try but the Broncos responded well though Anthony Milford, Farnworth converted.

It was in the last minute of the match when Euan Aitken scored but the conversions kept failing and Broncos took the victory.
