Preparation a tough call for Fiji 7s: O’Connor

Fiji Rugby Union chief executive John O’Connor says preparation would be a tough call for the national team ahead of the Vancouver 7s.

O’Connor said a few weeks ago the national reps returned from the Tokyo Olympics and players have been away from their families for nearly seven months.

“Yes, it’s a difficult decision to make because we have to also see the schedule of the players. They have just returned and most of them have reunited with their families.”

“If we are to take part then preparation will not be easy. It’s going to be very difficult because we have some outgoing players. Their replacements will also need training and our national coach is also away.”

“Without preparation, we cannot go and play at any international 7s. Preparation is the key to the door of the overseas tournament. The COVID-19 pandemic will not give us time to prepare because remaining in the bubble is very important,” he added.

The Canada 7s will take place on the 25th and 26th of September.
