Rodu to build two strong teams

National women’s football coach Marika Rodu believes building two strong teams will enable him to select the best players for international competitions.

Rodu said the World Cup qualifiers are fast approaching and as national coach he has set some targets which he aims to fulfil before the games.

He said two teams will train and play amongst themselves for a spot in the main Fiji team.

“I feel two teams are necessary which will allow us to form the main team soon. We have some plans in place and we did also at the start of the year but because of the COVID-19 pandemic we got left behind.”

“Our main motive is trying to select the best players from all districts and then bring them in the camp and get them to training. If we are successful in training then I’m sure we can get things moving. We know how it is like playing against an international team and for that we have to prepare ahead.”

“At the moment we have the national reps in our books. We are also aiming to select more players because the current squad needs to be in competition and we need to see their capacity level. Intensity is another thing that we want to see while fitness is really important,” Rodu added.

Meanwhile, Fiji Football Association is aiming to resume football activities by October.
