Sports to resume upon 80pc full vaccination

Fiji  National Sports Commission Executive Chairman Peter Mazey has made it clear that sports will only resume once 80 per cent of the country's adult population is fully vaccinated.

He said they already had discussions with the Ministry of Health on resuming sporting activities.

“The return to sports activities will be very dependent on the country reaching the Vaccination target of 80% fully vaccinated. We are hopeful that the Ministry of Health will allow at least an initial restart in November.”

“As I represent the Sports Commission I am unaware of any discussions between the MOH and FASANOC who are representatives for our Olympic Committee whereas the Commission is responsible for Sports Activities not just elite, also Sports Development.”

“I would point out that the Ministry of Youth & Sports, the Fiji Sports Council and the Fiji National Sports Commission have been preparing Back to Sports Protocols and this once approved by the Ministry of Health will be the document all Sports can take on board for an organized and safe return to sporting activities.”

“Simply all sports organisations and athletes will be encouraged to follow the new Back to Sports protocols and the safe sports protocols put in place by each organization. We will need to constantly monitor and ensure the protection of our athletes, officials and public as it is obvious that the current virus will not totally go away.”
