Newbies need to learn about 7s: Fuli

Fijiana 7s Head Coach Saiasi Fuli says the six new players included in his extended member training will need to learn 7s rugby first.

Fuli made this comment saying the new guns came from athletics and their speed would be an advantage but what’s more important is having the knowledge about 7s rugby.

He said the new additions are given six weeks to learn the basics of rugby however, they will not be playing at the upcoming Dubai 7s.

He said the newbies will need to undergo huge training and also take part in the local competitions to build themselves.

“They are beginners. They will not go into the tournament.”

“So there are two separate programs. The Seniors are prepared for the competition, the beginners- we will give them six weeks of orientation by introducing core skills, change of culture coming from athletics coming from athletics.”

“They will need to learn the core skills of tackle technics, catch and pass, how we can progressively we can push them in the system and challenge the big girls.”

“Hopefully next year or in two years’ time you will definitely hear the same name again like Naomi and Laisani going into the field again and represent the Fijiana 7s,” he added.
