Fiji 7s playmaker Terio Tamani is part of Fiji 7s extended squad training ahead of the new HSBC sevens series set to kick off with Dubai 7s next month.
Tamani is part of interim coach Saiasi Fuli’s 28-member extended squad that got into camp yesterday and were training at Albert Park today.
The Police Officer was earlier dropped by national coach Gareth Baber due to a lot of errors identified in his game but he has started to make fine-tune in his gameplay and fitness level.
Alongside Tamani, utility back Livai Ikanikoda, forward Kavekini Tabu, Olympic heroes Joseva Talacolo and Josua Vakurunabili are the current most experienced players in the squad.
Fuli during the press interview said the selection of the players is based on their performance in this seasons’ local tournament.
“The platform has been set by Gareth. We were doing some consultation and advice that he provided by supplying the platform which is the depth chart of his previous squad. Myself and Jerry did three days of going through the hurdles.”
“The past series held by FRU- we had to go through the list again and check for the best players available that are playing well to join the squad. So it’s a mixture of retaining some of the senior and experienced players like Joshua, Rasaku, Livai, Tamani and Talacolo from the Olympic outing.”
“So it’s a combination of players that was carried forward from Gareth’s depth chart in terms of the access and planning and how we identify some other best players that are playing well in the local sevens 7s hosted by FRU,” Fuli explained.
Meanwhile, two times Fiji 7s Olympic Gold medalist Jerry Tuwai was not part of the training today.
