Fiji books spot in Cup quarters

Fiji has qualified for the Cup quarterfinals of Dubai 7s after beating Canada 29-14 in its second Pool A match.

Three quick tries by Iowane Teba, Kaminieli Rasaku and Joseva Talacolo and a successful conversion from Teba saw Fiji take a 17-0 lead.

A yellow card to Captain Josua Vakurunabili for a dangerous tackle just before the break allowed the Canadians to score through Josiah Morra while Cooper Coats converted.

Coats scored and converted Canada’s second try early in the second half to reduce the lead by just three points and make the match more exciting.

Despite making more mistakes and giving away possession, Fiji managed to score two more tries through Rasaku and replacement Iowane Raturaciri to snatch their second win of the tournament.

Fiji will meet Australia in its final match at 3.33am (Fiji Time) to determine the winner of Pool A.

Day 1 Results: Fiji 29-14 Canada, Australia 17-10 France, Argentina 22-17 Kenya, USA 7-12 Spain, Great Britain 26-19 Ireland, South Africa 52-12 Japan, Fiji 24-15 France, Australia 35-19 Canada, Argentina 28-7 Spain, USA 14-7 Kenya, Great Britain 17-12 Japan, South Africa 28-7 Ireland.
