Fiji bows out in Dubai 7s semis

Fiji has bowed out of the Dubai 7s after losing 21-19 to the United States of America (USA) in a thrilling semifinal encounter at the Sevens Stadium.

Fiji started the match brilliantly and scored three quick tries through Iowane Teba, Filipe Sauturaga and Kaminieli Rasaku while Waisea Nacuqu converted twice.

Carlin Isles scored for the USA just before the break and Steve Tomasin converted as Fiji led 19-7 at the break.

USA dominated the second half and scored two tries through Lucas Lacamp and Matai Leuta while Tomasin converted.

Coach Saiasi Fuli's tactic to send in fresh legs towards the end of the match did not help much as the new players on the field could not connect and lost a golden scoring opportunity right at the death.

Fiji will now play Argentina for third place while USA will meet South Africa in the grand final.

South Africa defeated Argentina 17-7 in the first semifinal.
