Flying Fijians Captain Waisea Nayacalevu has revealed that he is not vaccinated against COVID-19.
The 31-year-old is the only Fijian player in the French Top 14 competition who is yet to get vaccinated.
The Stade Francais' centre told the Rugbyrama website that the planned rule change in France would leave him with little choice.
Nayacalevu could be blocked from playing after January 15 if the French upper house passes a bill requiring a full course of vaccination to enjoy basic parts of life, such as entering sporting stadiums.
"At worst, I would take the vaccine," he said.
"If the law changes, if the French government validates the vaccination pass, I will have to take it. But getting vaccinated is the last option for me."
Nayacalevu twice contracted COVID-19 virus but had felt no need for vaccination.
“It had been a personal choice,” he said.
He was also one of the Fiji players who objected to a pro-vaccine message on the international side's shirts earlier this year.
“It is not our job, as rugby players, to push people to get vaccinated. Leave that to the politicians and health officials. We are here to play rugby, that’s all.”
