Women footballers to play Euro teams

The Digicel National Women's Football team  is looking to play a few international friendly matches against European teams.

Fiji Football Technical Director Timo Jankowski said they were scheduled to play friendly games against Hong Kong next month but due to the COVID-19 situation in the country, the opponents have opted out.

However, Jankowski is confident that the women's team will play friendly matches ahead of the FIFA Women's World Cup Qualifiers which will be played in July this year.

"The plan was to play with Hong Kong at home but they decided to cancel their tour due to the pandemic."

"We still have plans where the women can play friendlies against Europe teams like Barbados, Hungary, Sweden, Denmark and Croatia."

“We are making some arrangements where the women’s team and players can test themselves and see where they stand."

"Friendlies are important to prepare the women's team because FIFA is not easy so we have to put the women to trial and see how they play against international teams before we stage them at the international platform."
